What to choose: House or apartment?

There is no correct response to the whether a house is better than an apartment or vice versa. This is completely up to personal preference. In this article we will explore the advantages and disadvantages of both houses and apartment that will allow you to distinguish what type of person you are and which one you should go for.

The Apartment

Space

The biggest disadvantage of apartments is that they will almost always be smaller in size than houses. This is completely normal and might be what you are looking for – all you need to do is learn to make the most of the space and fill the corners rather than let it waste away empty. If you are lucky enough to find a whole floor apartment then the space may not be an issue for you, but this will all depend on budget and availability.

Location

You don’t really think about the size when you are looking for a central location for your home. It is inevitable that an apartment will be more central than a house because houses need more land given their size. If location is more important to you that size, then an apartment is your best bet.

Neighbors

When buying or renting an apartment, you will never really know your neighbors until you move into the building. This is unfortunately something unavoidable and can sometimes cause issues in the future. If you have found your dream apartment but are stuck with terrible neighbors, this might ruin your whole experience.

Animal lovers

If you are an animal lover, it might be difficult for you to live in an apartment with your pet whether that is due to the size of the animal or the apartment. Larger animals such as dogs, especially big dogs, need the space to move around to get rid of all the energy they have and also you don’t want them to constantly be in between your legs.

The House

Entertaining guests

If you are the kind of person who loves being the host and entertaining your guests, having a house is always a great idea. With more space, a garden and maybe an extra bedroom, you are able to throw parties more comfortably. Unfortunately, the flip side is that the house will need a lot more maintenance, like gardening, cleaning and general upkeep.

Parking Space

Having your own garage, makes a huge different to most induvial, especially working individuals. Coming home to your apartment and finding another car parked in your spot can make you furious and as a result, you would have to find a parking spot on the side of the street outside the building. In a house however, you will have your designated parking space that no one will be able to use.

Privacy

When buying house, if you choose a quiet area with spaced out housing plans, you will benefit from privacy and peace and quiet. Some prefer being slightly further away from the center where they can enjoy quiet after a busy day and relax in their own home peacefully. You also won’t have to deal with neighbors like you would if you were to be living in an apartment block.

Raising children

If you plan to have a family, it is always more comfortable to be in a house when you do so. There is more space for the family, more space for the children to play whether in the house or in the garden and also allows for members of the family to take their own time in a designated room which would be difficult to do in an apartment. Having a garden or an outdoor area where the children can play is always a great advantage of living in a house since it will encourage them to go out into nature and play.

In conclusion, as mentioned above, it is merely up to personal preferences whether you choose to live in an apartment or a house. This also might change with age and marital status. You may choose to live in an apartment whilst you are young and single but then decide it’s better to move into house once things get serious- you will never know until the actual time comes to make a decision.
